           Toronto (March 4, 2021) – The first-ever NorthWest Toronto information session with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) was a tremendous success, with 110 registrations and 67 attendees online. 
          
                    &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                      
           “We had students, young men and women, parents and community members at the Virtual Session,” says Mark Tenaglia, Chair of Make Your Future (MYF). 
          
                    &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                      
           “Clearly, people want this kind of information and we are already working on setting up the next session.” 
          
                    &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

            Some of the information presented focused on the facilities at Downsview, which includes Denison Armoury. Parents learned that there are four after-school Cadet programs for students aged 12 to 18 running at Denison (when COVID-19 restrictions are not in place).            Toronto (February 17, 2021) – Young people in northwest Toronto including the Jane-Finch and Humber-Black Creek communities are invited to learn about careers in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in a special virtual recruiting session designed specifically for the area which borders Downsview Airbase and Denison Armoury, one of the CAF’s five major Divisions.

           CAF have been invited to present this information by Make Your Future (MYF), a local community group working to help young people explore and identify their career path.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           “In addition to the traditional career path of joining the Canadian Armed Forces after high school or after university, we want young people to know there are opportunities for them to join the CAF through a Co-op program while they are still in high school. In this program they can earn high school credits and a paycheck while they are training,” says Lt(N) Shortridge, Canadian Forces Recruiting Group Southern Ontario Attractions Officer, CAF.

           “The CAF needs young people looking for great career options; Jane-Finch has lots of young people looking for great career options,”

            says Mark Tenaglia, chair of Make Your Future (MYF). MYF is part of 31 Division’s Community-Police Liaison Committee and has been working since 2018 to bring young people and employers together through school-based career fairs and events.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                      
           “COVID-19 forced us to suspend our in-person events, but it has made us more aware of opportunities for virtual events like this one, which actually have the potential to reach even more young people across a wider area during this time,”

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                      
            says Tenaglia.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           “Eventually this lockdown will end, and all of our young people will be even closer to launching their careers. We hope this virtual session will give them ideas they can pursue when in-person activities like Co-op programs begin again,”

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                      
            says Kevin Green, President and CEO of Greenwin Corp, which sponsors MYF and provides funds, volunteers and meeting space to groups in the community.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Make Your Future is also working with the Canadian Armed Forces to explore the idea of launching a Cadets program for kids aged 12 and older.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
                      
           “These kids do not realize how much employers need them,” says Green. “Trade unions need them, the CAF needs them, Canada needs them. We want to see them succeed. We will support their path to a career in every way possible.”

            was able to arrange sponsorship of the first Company Program EVER, launching in October 2019 in the community centre at 25 San Romanoway.

           Students from seven different high schools meet weekly with volunteer business mentors as part of the JA program. They have developed and tested their own products, formed their own company, and are actively selling their environmentally-friendly Eco-Cradle at shows, in person and on-line at the Eco-Cradle website,

           Already, the students have asked if there will be another Junior Achievement Company program starting in fall, 2020. Volunteer mentors are at work confirming arrangements for the next Company program.
